German Marshall Fund of the United States to start a new strategic partnership with the Italian Institute for International Affairs (IAI) on Mediterranean affairs and transatlantic implications

05 May 2009

The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is pleased to announce a strategic partnership grant with the Italian Institute for International Affairs (Istituto Affari Internazionali - IAI) for the period 2009-2010 and open for renewal.

The strategic partnership will leverage IAI’s intellectual expertise, GMF’s convening capabilities and networks in Washington and across Europe, and GMF’s growing focus on southern Europe, North Africa and the Mediterranean.

This grant will support an enhanced program of research and analysis by IAI experts spanning key areas such as new actors in the Mediterranean, maritime security issues, emerging opportunities and challenges for Euroatlantic cooperation as well as multiple issues related to the different existing dialogues in this region.

The IAI is a longstanding partner of GMF and this collaboration will foster transatlantic understanding and debate on the region. The strategic partnership will be coordinated by Ian Lesser, Senior Transatlantic Fellow (GMF, Washington DC), and by the Paris Office of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, represented by François Lafond.

The German Marshall Fund of the United States looks forward to this successful collaboration with the Italian Institute for International Affairs.
