Climate and energy policy are on a journey. For years they were relegated to the margins of European foreign policy. While the European Union prided itself on being a climate leader in world affairs long before its European Green Deal, climate featured only sporadically in foreign and security policy until the 2015 Paris Agreement. Although energy diplomacy underwent bouts of activity, it was also compartmentalised and separated from the core of foreign policy. This slowly began to change over the last decade, with a strengthened emphasis on climate and energy in the past five years. [...]
