Programme [2]

In an increasingly fragmented international system, the EU-US cooperation is of paramount importance in critical areas of strategic rivalry such as trade and technology. In 2021 the European Commission and the Biden Administration established the EU-US Trade and Technology Council (TTC) with the aim to strengthen technological and industrial leadership, while upholding shared democratic values and bilateral economic relations. Transatlantic collaboration is especially pivotal for the governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The EU and the US share key principles and a basically common vision on trustworthy AI, but persistent diverging interests and different policy approaches have so far prevented a transatlantic consensus on how to regulate AI in order to maximize its potential and avert the risks it poses.
In the framework of its strategic partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo, the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) will hold a hybrid event to discuss challenges and opportunities for transatlantic cooperation on global AI governance and the role of the Trade and Techonology Council. The meeting will be opened by Andrea Renda, Director of the Trade and Technology Dialogue and Director of Research of CEPS.
