The dramatic health and socio-economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have produced huge opportunities for international criminal organizations. These organizations can exploit the current circumstances either investing funds gained from criminal activities - such as drug or weapon trafficking - or pushing recruitment due to the deterioration of the economy. As the COVID-19’s spread, the flow of capitals generated by illicit activities is not constrained by national boundaries, thus requiring multilateral and coordinated counteractions.
In the framework of the partnership between IAI and Intesa Sanpaolo, the webinar will discuss the implications produced by the COVID-19 pandemic on the activities of international criminal organizations and the proper policy responses.
