IAI Turin Essay Prize 2021 – Winning Essays Announced

Successful candidates of the 1st edition of the IAI-University of Turin Essay Prize 2021 have been announced. The five winning essays, selected by an Advisory Board composed of experts and academics from institutions involved in the initiative, will be published in the IAI Commentaries series and presented during an online ceremony on 7 December 2021.

The essay contest was launched by IAI in the context of its strategic partnership with the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation Foundation, together with the Department of Historical Studies of the University of Turin and with the support of the centres of excellence, the School of Advanced Studies “Ferdinando Rossi” and the Luigi Einaudi Foundation.

The board received around 30 essays of outstanding quality and analytical skills, addressing different topics of relevance to Italian Foreign policy.

Essay Ranking:

1° Premio: Chiara Grazia Valenzano (Department of Culture, Politics, Society), "Mediterranean Equilibria: Italo-Turkish Competition over Libya"

2° Premio: Amal Sadki (Department of Law), "Of Blood and Bullets: Is Italy Exporting War?"

3° Premio: Tiziano Girardi (Department of History Studies), "Broadening the Frame: Italian Tokenism on Israel/Palestine"

4° Premio: Alessandro Berti (Department of History Studies), "Un-Mediterranean: A Peninsula Without a Maritime Vocation?"

5° Premio: Xixi Hong (Department of Humanities Studies), "Italy Changes Track: From the Belt and Road Initiative to a Post-Pandemic (Re)Alignment with Washington"
