Defence Industrial Policies in EU Members

In November 2021 IAI won the European Defence Agency (EDA) call for a “Study on National Industrial Strategies and Policies in EDA participating Member States relevant for the European Defence Industrial Base”.

The project for the European Defence Agency (EDA) lasts seven months. It will provide an in-depth comparative analysis of defence industrial policy in 26 EU Member States, with a particular focus on Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden.

IAI leads the research team, which encompasses Institut de Relations Internationales et Stratégiques (IRIS) and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), as well as ten experts from major European think tanks such the German Council on Foreign Relations, the Real Istituto Elcano and the Polish Institute of International Affairs.

The research theme is particularly relevant for European defence considering that national industrial policies in this field do influence EU initiatives such as European Defence Fund (EDF) and Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO).
