Warfare and Geopolitics in Europe's Southern Neighbourhood

01/07/2021, Webinar

The event brought together regional experts and scholars, as well as NATO representatives, who discussed the evolution of warfare and geopolitical rivalries in the South and the implications for NATO. The first part of the discussion assessed current and forthcoming challenges in the MENA region and the Sahel, identifying the main trends that could shape the security landscape over the next decade. Building on the recommendations of the June 2021 NATO Summit, panellists and participants engaged in a discussion about possible ways to strengthen regional stability, with a particular focus on NATO’s possible contribution to this effort.

In the context of the ongoing strategic reflection about NATO 2030 to support the development of a new Strategic Concept, this webinar is the fourth of a series of events co-organized by the NDC and the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), the Fondation Méditerranéenne d’Etudes Stratégiques (FMES) and the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) exploring ways to enhance NATO’s contribution to stability in the South.
