Recasting EU civilian crisis management: capabilities and partnerships

06/07/2018, Rome

International conference organized by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in cooperation with the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS).

The conference, held in Rome on 6 July 2018 at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, addressed the status and prospects of the ongoing revision of civilian crisis management at EU level, looking in particular at the forthcoming Civilian Capabilities Development Plan and the current reflection on a Civilian Compact. The experience of other international (UN) and regional (OSCE) organizations, transnational NGOs and national actors in this field was instrumental to identify lessons learned and best practices for the EU. In addition, the concept and practice of civilian-military cooperation was tested against the evolving security context and the commitment of the EU and its Member States to develop adequate capabilities and mechanisms in Brussels, national capitals and on the ground. A special focus has been given to the Mediterranean and Sahel regions.
