IAI-GMF Partnerhsip on Transatlantic Cooperation in the Mediterranean and the Middle East

Director: Roberto Aliboni

In the framework of a new strategic partnership with the German Marshall Fund of the United States (press release), IAI is monitoring four key areas:

Emerging opportunities and challenges for Euro-Atlantic cooperation and strategy in the Mediterranean, and issues related to NATO's Mediterranean dialogue, the Union for the Mediterranean, and the "5+5" Framework;

The future of Libya and Libyan foreign policy, and transatlantic implications;

New actors in the Mediterranean with special reference to the GCC states, and the question of foreign direct investment in the southern Mediterranean;

Maritime security issues in the Mediterranean and transatlantic responses.

Moreover, in the framework of this programme, an international network of experts – the Mediterranean Strategy Group – has been set up to discuss strategic trends in the area twice a year.
