Edition
2010
The XIV edition
of the Laboratory's Global Outlook examined
topics and reference markets have been
selected among the most significant,
both in the geo-economical reference
areas and in the political-economical
international landscape.
The analysed issues refer to two levels:
single countries and/or emerging regional areas
multilateral topics and contexts
These themes are worked out both by the IAI research team
and by a number of experts from research institutes,
universities and international institutions cooperating with
the IAI.
The research aims to provide a set of proposals for
Italy's foreign economic policy and processes of
internationalisation, taking into consideration the
difficulties caused by the present slow recovery of the
global economy.
Services offered
The 2010 edition of the Global Outlook centres on
five main types of activities:
- Fora
- Reports
and Dossier
- Analyses and Research: Observatory on
internationalization of Italian economy
- Workshops
- WTO
Desk
The new edition aims to deepen the
analysis on themes and areas that are
significant for Italy's
internationalisation. In order to
improve analysis methods, two new
initiatives will be undertaken:
The first one aims at working out a
set of reliability
indicators concerning
countries and reference areas that are
significant for Italy's international
positioning. This will be obtained by
specific methodologies comprising both
business environment indicators and
strategic security indicators. The final
task is to work out - with the
cooperation of either Global Outlook
members and external professionals -
qualitative and quantitative evaluations
concerning the so-called reliability
level of specific market areas, by
experimenting new methods which compare
different analyses on the above
mentioned themes.
The second initiative aims at
creating an Observatory
on the internationalisation process
of Italian firms and banks, within the
main final markets. The observatory will
lead to specific statistical and
informative analyses on Italy's
international presence within the main
final markets. In this perspective,
specific "density indicators"
will be worked out, concerning the
foreign Italian economic interests to be
related to the priorities of the Italian
foreign economic policy. The task of
this monitoring activity consists in
both analysing the feedback of Italian
economy towards opportunities and
constraints arising from the ongoing
globalization process, and working out
concrete proposals to increase the
international competitiveness of Italy's
productive system. The different
proposals will be discussed with Global
Outlook members and included in a Policy
Paper to be presented to the Government
authorities and to representatives from
the Italian economic and institutional
sphere during the final conference of
the Global Outlook's new edition.
Fora
The Fora are meetings limited to
representatives from firms and
institutions that are members of the
Laboratory's Global Outlook. Discussions
focus on specific topics presented by
one or more guest speakers (representatives
from institutions, analysts/consultants,
academics).
In the 2010
programme, at the end of each meeting,
an updating will be provided on the main
emerging areas, and particular areas/countries
to keep under observation because of
their peculiar risk or dynamism
conditions will be highlighted.

Reports and dossiers
The reports and dossiers, produced in
collaboration with the institutes that
form the international network of the
Global Outlook/Laboratory, monitor the
evolution of areas and single
countries, as well as the policies of
the major European countries on the
main emerging areas at the macro and
micro-sectorial levels. Topics of
current economic and political events
are examined. The reports are
available in hard copy and/or
electronic format.
Analyses and
research
Ad hoc analyses are primarily
aimed at identifying prospects for
consolidation and development of the
Italian presence in a given area. In
parallel, issues of significance to
the internationalisation policies of
the Italian economic system (sistema
Italia) are examined.
WTO observatory
The WTO and Trade Policies Programme aims at monitoring the
WTO Doha Round negotiations development, in order to work
out relevant suggestions for the participation of Italy to
the international trade system.
