Asia Programme at IAI reflects the realisation that Asia has become central to global prosperity and to the Western powers’ own growth prospects. The Far East is today the world’s most dynamic economic area, contributing for more than half to global growth. Yet, China’s rise takes place outside of - and in potential opposition to - the US system of alliances which has been a factor of stability in Asia. The region’s policy makers are therefore increasingly looking for ways to accommodate these changing power relations in an environment still beset by competing nationalisms.
The Asia Programme at IAI pursues three main goals: (i) the analysis and organization of events on socio-political, economic and security developments in Asia and their potential effects on Europe and Italy; (ii) the establishment of a network of dynamic relations with key research institutes and experts within the region and across Europe; (iii) the development of innovative ideas and policy recommendations on the role that the EU and Italy can play in this increasingly important part of the world.
